  • Medical College students take out a protest rally KOLKATA: Father of the second-year post graduate trainee (PGT) doctor - whose brutalised body was found in a seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital - on Saturday said his family had complete faith in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the police probe into her daughter's alleged rape and murder.

"All we want is a proper investigation and justice. We have complete faith in what the CM does. We don't know whether the CBI probe will be good or bad, for the moment we can't do anything but to have faith in the police probe," he told reporters. Meanwhile, the victim's mother said her family suspected that more persons, including insiders, could have been involved in the crime.

Demanding death penalty for the 'killer' of his daughter, father of the 31-year-old victim said his family didn't want to politicize the incident. "My daughter always used to avoid trouble. We avoid trouble, we dislike it. Like you have seen, we are trying to avoid politics. People from other parties are disturbing (us) ... but we do not want politics. We want to lead a simple life," he added. The brutal death of their only daughter has left the family shattered. The victim, her father said, was to get married next year.

The prospective groom is also a doctor. "My daughter had dreamt of becoming a good doctor since childhood and she had the opportunity to pursue MBBS in two govt medical colleges," he said. "The parents are still in a state of shock. They lost consciousness at least twice since they lost their daughter," said Krishna Dey, a neighbour. Another neighbour, Sanjib Mukherjee, said despite the gloom, there was some respite that the accused was arrested.

The victim's mother recalled how her husband had toiled as a tailor in the past to raise their daughter and eventually turned into a garment manufacturer. The girl was a beacon of hope, she shared, adding how her daughter had been organizing Durga Puja at their home for the last two years and had plans to scale up the celebration this time.

One of her teachers said she could have been one of the best doctors in the country. Cops were deployed in front of her Sodepur house.

Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay and MP Saugata Roy told the family that if they wanted a CBI probe, they could seek it and the CM had already said so.
