Kolkata: Union minister Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday wrote to Union health minister J P Nadda seeking his intervention in the R G Kar incident.
Seeking a CBI inquiry, Majumdar requested Nadda to send a National Medical Commission team to assess the infrastructure of the medical colleges. “I request to send a team of National Medical Commission to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.Also, enforce stringent security protocols, including the installation of more CCTV cameras, presence of adequate security personnel and the restriction of unauthorized access to sensitive areas within medical institutions,” Majumdar wrote in the letter.
The BJP move comes a day after Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee called for introducing a Bill in Parliament to fast-track trial and conviction of rapists and murderers within a week. He criticised BJP for protesting on the streets and urged them to instead press the Centre to pass a Bill for swift justice.
