Kolkata: Due to the recent unrest in Bangladesh, a club in north Kolkata organised a peace prayer on the occasion of their Khuti Puja — the ceremonial start of the Durga Puja preparations — on Sunday.
On the 64th year of Shyambazar Palli Sangha’s puja, blind and disabled children gathered at the venue to recite poems and sing Rabindrasangeet.
“We believe that the upcoming Durga Puja of our club should invoke an emotion of peace among everyone,” said Subrata Bhattacharya, club secretary.“Durga Puja is an occasion in which one can reach out to the masses with a message of positivity and brotherhood,” he added.
This year the theme of the puja is ‘Bandhan’ (human bondings), which will be executed by theme artist Badal Mistri.
