  • KOLKATA: At least four doctors from Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital have been called in for questioning regarding the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor.

As per the TV reports, the doctors summoned were all on night duty when the crime occurred.

The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was smothering and throttling. There were abrasion marks and bruises on the victim’s face, extending from the eyes to the neck.

On Sunday, investigators discovered the most compelling evidence yet against Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect: blood and skin traces found under the victim’s nails perfectly match Roy's DNA and correspond to his injuries.

The protesting doctors at RG Kar Medical College hospital called for a judicial inquiry on Sunday, insisting on regular updates regarding the investigation's progress. They also demanded compensation for the victim's family and the death penalty for the offender as conditions to end their ongoing strike.

The Resident Doctors' Association of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has made it clear that they will continue to cease all work, including emergency services. Lahari Sarkar, speaking on behalf of the protesting doctors, said: "Our demands are clear, and we will not rest until justice is delivered."

In a show of solidarity, junior doctors from medical colleges and hospitals across West Bengal have joined the strike, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for a resolution.
