  • NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: Eleven Bangladeshis have been arrested for illegally entering India, Border Security Force (BSF) said on Sunday.

"Two each were apprehended at West Bengal and Tripura borders, while seven were caught at Meghalaya border. We have not yet ascertained or confirmed their political affiliations, but all are from Bangladesh," said BSF's South Bengal Frontier in Kolkata.

After preliminary questioning, they will be handed over to the respective state police for further legal action, a BSF spokesperson stated.

An Awami League student wing functionary, arrested by the BSF at the Bengal border on Saturday, was produced before Murshidabad's Jangipur court for crossing the border without valid papers. BSF has thwarted several infiltration attempts and sent back thousands of Bangladeshis in recent days with the assistance of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). TNN/Agencies
