  • Kolkata: Hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals from the minority Hindu community gathered near the zero point of the India-Bangladesh border in Gotamari village in Lalmonirhat on Friday morning after a rumour spread that Indian leaders would come to the barbed-wire fence to talk. Later, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) convinced them it was just a rumour and pushed them back.

Ashwini Kumar Bosunia, president of Hatibandha Upazila Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, said he saw some people from the Hindu community heading towards the Indian border near his house. BGB officials and locals assured them of safety and urged them to return home. But people remained at the fence near Khropo river till evening. When some tried to enter India, the Indian BSF intervened. tnn
