Kolkata: At least three writ petitions were filed in Calcutta High Court on Monday praying for a CBI investigation or a judicial probe into the rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Kaustav Bagchi, counsel for a petitioners, wanted court directive for removal of the principal and the superintendent. Both were, however, transferred later in the day.Counsel Jhuma Sen for another petitioner wanted a court-monitored judicial probe.
Counsel Phiroze Edulji referred to the Hetal Parekh case in which security guard Dhananjay Chatterjee was hanged to death. He said there was no direct evidence against Chatterjee and there should not be a repeat of that in the RG Kar case. A division bench of Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya allowed filing of the petitions. It is likely to take up the petitions for hearing on Tuesday. tnn
