  • Kolkata: A two-member team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) arrived in Kolkata on Monday in the wake of the rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The team, led by Delina Khongdup, went straight to Lalbazar to speak to officers investigating the case.

“This is a very unfortunate incident and one of the most heinous crimes in recent times.Such incidents have been happening in Bengal. We will also visit the parents of the victim. We will then go to the hospital where the crime took place,” Khongdup told reporters.

Trinamool, however, criticised the commision and state minister Sashi Panja said, “During the tenure of NCW chief Rekha Sharma, the commission was biased at the highest level, maligning opposition-ruled states and turning a blind eye to crimes committed in BJP-ruled states. How can one forget her role in Sandeshkhali? She was one of the main conspirators and sold the dignity of Sandeshkhali for Rs 2,000 so that her masters in BJP could reap political benefits.”
