  • The Kolkata high court criticized Sandip Ghosh's immediate reappointment as a principal after resigning over a trainee doctor's rape and murder. NEW DELHI: The Kolkata high court on Tuesday expressed strong disapproval over the appointment of Sandip Ghosh as the principal of another government medical college, just hours after he resigned as principal of RG Kar Medical College amid the outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

The chief justice of the high court questioned, "How can the principal, who resigned by taking moral responsibility, be appointed as the principal of another government college?"

The court orders Ghosh to submit a leave application by 3pm.If he fails to do so, the court would issue an order for his removal from the position, the HC bench said.

The court also emphasized that Ghosh, given his previous role, should have been the first to be questioned in connection with the incident. The high court further asked the state council.

"Why are you protecting him? Record his statement. Let him tell whatever he knows."

The chief justice's division bench directed that the case diary related to the matter be filed before the court by 1pm the same day.
