  • Calcutta high court KOLKATA: The Calcutta high court has directed the West Bengal government to produce the case diary of an investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The directive, issued on Tuesday, aims to present this record at 1 pm. The parents of the deceased postgraduate trainee requested a court-monitored investigation into the case, while several PILs called for a CBI probe.

A division bench led by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam expressed concerns over the sufficiency of the existing investigation. "Something is missing in the probe," observed Chief Justice Sivagnanam. The court questioned if the statement of Sandip Ghosh, the then principal of the medical college, was recorded. The state lawyer confirmed that it was not.

The bench also queried the reinstatement of Ghosh, who had resigned as principal of RG Kar hospital and was later appointed principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital within hours. The court requested production of both the resignation and appointment letters when the case is revisited at 1 pm.

The incident involves the alleged rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor, whose body was discovered in a seminar hall of the RG Kar hospital on Friday morning. A civic volunteer was arrested in connection with the incident on Saturday.
