• Revised fines for vehicles flouting rules

  • Kolkata: The state govt has amended the penal provisions under Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which deals with violations related to road safety, noise, and air pollution standards. The revised penalties, effective immediately, introduce a tiered fine system aimed at curbing environmental and safety violations. Any person found guilty of such violations will face a temporary suspension of their driving license for three months.

    Previously, the penalty was a flat Rs 10,000 for any offence.Under the new rules for first offence the fine is Rs 2,000; for second offence Rs 5,000. For third and subsequent offences the fine is Rs 10,000. TNN
