  • Trinamool Congress leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray joined a protest demanding justice for the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation to the CBI, citing serious administrative lapses and potential evidence tampering. NEW DELHI: Amid growing outrage over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee PG doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has announced that he will join the midnight protest to seek justice for the victim and her parents.

Expressing shock and dismay over the incident, the MP took to 'X' to share his decision to participate in the protest.

"Tomorrow, I will join the protesters because I have a daughter and a granddaughter, like millions of Bengali families. Enough of cruelty against women. We must rise to the occasion,” Ray posted on 'X'.

The hospital has been witnessing continuous protests following the murder of a second-year post-graduate trainee in the seminar hall. Her body was discovered with multiple injuries on Friday morning.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer associated with the hospital, has been arrested in connection with the case.

In response to the nationwide outrage, the Calcutta high court on Tuesday ordered the state police to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The central agency has since filed an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in New Delhi in connection with the case.
