  • NEW DELHI: Doctors across India are protesting following the murder and alleged sexual assault of a post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor, demanding justice for the victim. Demonstrations have taken place in Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

    Protesters are seen holding placards that read, "Justice needs to be served," "No duty without security" and "Justice delayed is Justice denied."

    Dr.Kumar from Assam highlighted their demands for swift action against the accused. "We are demanding the accused to be arrested soon and punished as per law.

    This is a solidarity protest. A protest has been going on in West Bengal for 3-4 days now. It has been going on all over India. Our colleague at RG Kar Medical College was assaulted and murdered on duty," said Dr. Kumar to ANI.

    According to CBI sources, a special team of medical officers and a forensic team from Delhi have reached the crime scene. Earlier in the day, the CBI took over the investigation, as ordered by the Calcutta high court after arriving in Kolkata.

    The OPD services at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital remain closed as junior doctors continue their protest. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) is also continuing its nationwide shutdown of OPD services in response to the incident.

    The case revolves around a post-graduate trainee doctor who was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

    The incident has sparked widespread outrage and led to protests within the medical community and beyond.

    The victim's family has alleged that the doctor was raped and murdered.
