The renovation, being carried out by PWD, is for creating more amenities for PGTs and junior doctors as demanded by them. KOLKATA: The renovation work in the vicinity of the crime scene stirred up another controversy at RG Kar hospital on Tuesday.
Misleading information that the renovation work was being carried out inside the seminar room on the third floor, where the PGT doctor was raped and murdered, prompted many to protest. While the hospital administration said the work was underway not inside the seminar room, many argued that since it is close to the crime scene, this could lead to destruction of evidence.
“The renovation, being carried out by PWD, is for creating more amenities for PGTs and junior doctors as demanded by them.This should not be seen as an attempt to tamper with evidence. The seminar hall where the crime took place is sealed,” said the administrator.
But since the renovation is being done close to the seminar hall, questions are being raised on the motive. Many have questioned the timing of the renovation.
“We were shocked that the adjoining areas of the crime scene are being dismantled in the name of renovation. The CBI is yet to collect evidence and the investigation is far from being over. Our concern regarding the ulterior motive and mala fide intent of the administration to tamper with evidence is almost firmly confirmed,” said doctors Punyabrata Gun and Hiralal Konar, convenors of the Joint Platform of Doctors West Bengal.
