  • Kolkata: Hours after CBI lodged an FIR in New Delhi the RG Kar rape-murder case, the agency took custody of prime accused Sanjay Roy, took him for medical examination, and started questioning him at its CGO Complex office.

Senior Officials from New Delhi reached Kolkata Tuesday night and formed three teams. While one team took custody of the accused, the second went to RG Kar with forensic experts from CFSL Delhi and the third reviewed call records and other data on the victim's mobile phone to compile a list of people she was in touch with on the day of the incident.

Sources said the CBI was looking into the victim's whereabouts in the few hours before her death, including the people she met or spoke with. Kolkata Police has already handed over related documents, case diary, CCTV footage from the hospital and items on the seizure list, including a Bluetooth earphone wire found at the crime scene.

There was much drama when CBI officials set off with Roy for his medical checkup at ESI, Joka in the afternoon. The prison van turned back midway in view of the ongoing protests by doctors at ESI Joka as the officials felt it would not be safe to take Roy there. He was first taken to Command Hospital, which informed the team of their inability to conduct the exam, and then to BR Singh Hospital at Sealdah where the process was completed,

The CBI team accompanied by Central Forensic Laboratory members reached RG Kar Hospital around 3.40 pm and headed straight to the seminar hall where the young doctor's body was found on Friday.
