Fondly remembering the victim, the neighbours told The Indian Express that nothing less than ‘unadulterated’ justice will do. “We want the accused to get an exemplary punishment. We have heard that the CBI has taken over the case, let’s see how things unfold. People of our locality are with the family. We had organised a small procession to show that. Hundreds of men and women from the area participated in that,” one of the neighbours said.

When asked if justice will be delivered in the case, a neighbour said, “We cannot comment on the judiciary. We are common people, we just want justice. It’s true that the CM visited the area, she wanted a deadline till Sunday to solve the case, eventually the case was handed over to CBI.”

Residents of the area were proud of having a doctor in the neighbourhood, but are now apprehensive about going to hospitals. “She had a chamber here. She used to frequent my shop, her parents would visit my shop. We were proud to have a doctor in our area. We depended on her too, in case of emergency we could call her. Where will we go now? We are scared of going to the hospital too now. If there is no security for doctors in these hospitals, what will happen to us?” another neighbour asked.

“She was like our daughter. Her parents have raised her with such love and sincerity. We have lost that girl,” one of the neighbours said.
