  • Unidentified miscreants entered the premises of the state-run hospital shortly after midnight on Thursday and vandalised portions of the medical facility, where the body of a woman doctor was found last week, police said. NEW DELHI: A group of at least 20 doctors from various state-run medical establishments in Kolkata met West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday, seeking his intervention after miscreants vandalized a portion of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The doctors, mostly women, expressed feelings of insecurity in the wake of the incident.

The vandalism occurred during midnight protests against the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital, which took place last week.

"The governor assured the doctors of all assistance and taking the matter to the highest level to end the ongoing hooliganism in West Bengal," an official said.

Bose has also launched 'Abhaya Home', a temporary sanctuary for doctors who feel unsafe, allowing them to stay "until they get back the confidence to move around freely in West Bengal."

In addition, the governor's office opened an 'Abhaya Portal', providing a platform where doctors and common people experiencing distress can seek help.
