  • NEW DELHI: The father of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata while on duty, shared insights into his daughter's aspirations and dedication to her medical studies.

In her personal diary, her last entry expressed her ambition to excel academically, aiming to become a gold medallist in her course and top the MD exams.

According to a India today report, the father revealed that his daughter was a diligent student, often dedicating 10 to 12 hours each day to her studies. He lamented that everything has now been shattered. "She would be immersed in books all day. She worked very hard," he said, highlighting her unwavering commitment to her education.

The trainee doctor's father commended his daughter's determination, emphasising that she "fought a lot to reach her goal of becoming a doctor". He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the family in raising her and expressed being "overwhelmed" by the nationwide support for his daughter in the wake of the tragedy.

"I won't get my daughter back. But all I could do is have courage and be hopeful. The show of support from around the country is giving us a lot of courage to fight for justice," he said.

The father of the postgraduate trainee doctor expressed his lack of satisfaction with the investigation being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Her father stated, "We are now hopeful of justice. We must not lose hope."

He demanding the death penalty for those responsible for his daughter's brutal murder. "The sooner they are punished, the better. We will get some solace, though nothing can replace our loss."

On August 9, the semi-naked body of the doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in connection with the heinous crime. The investigation, initially handled by Kolkata Police, has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following an order from the Calcutta High Court.

The autopsy report of the woman doctor revealed the extent of the brutality she endured, indicating multiple penetrations and injuries to various parts of her body.

The report mentioned external injuries on her lower and upper lips, nose, cheeks and lower jaw. It also noted injuries on the temporal bone of her skull and blood coagulation on its frontal portion.
