• 'Do whatever possible': File FIR on attacks within 6 hours, Centre tells hospital heads

  • KOLKATA: Two days after Union health minister J P Nadda said his ministry will "do whatever possible" to protect doctors at govt hospitals, the ministry on Friday issued a notice to all govt hospitals asking heads of the institutions to lodge FIR within 6 hours of any violence on any on-duty health worker.

    In the notice, director general of health services, ministry of health and family welfare, Atul Goel said in the event of "any violence against any healthcare worker while on duty, the head of the institution shall be responsible for filing an institutional FIR within a maximum of 6 hours of the incident."

    Goel wrote that "violence has become common against doctors and other healthcare staff in govt hospitals" in recent times.
