  • A CBI official arrives during investigation of the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor, at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. NEW DELHI: The parents of a woman doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last week, have named several interns and physicians from the hospital as suspects to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The investigation, handed over to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court, is focusing on these potential suspects, following the family's suspicions.

The parents believe multiple individuals were involved in the crime. They provided the CBI with names of the interns and doctors they think are connected. According to a CBI officer, "The parents told us that they suspect the involvement of multiple persons behind the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They have given us names of a few interns and doctors working with their daughter at the RG Kar Hospital."

The CBI is prioritising questioning the hospital staff and Kolkata Police officers who were initially part of the investigation. "We have zeroed in on at least 30 names whom we will be calling for questioning. We have already started questioning them," the officer stated.

Among those summoned by the CBI on Friday were one house staff and two post-graduate trainees (PGTs) who were on duty the night the incident occurred. The agency had already questioned the officer-in-charge of the Tala Police Station the previous night.

The body of the post-graduate trainee was discovered in the RG Kar Hospital’s seminar room on August 9. In connection with this case, a civic volunteer was arrested by the police the following day.

On Friday, the CBI took the arrested man back to the hospital to reconstruct the crime scene. This step is crucial for understanding how events transpired on the night of the alleged crime. The investigation continues as the CBI methodically questions those potentially involved, aiming to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
