  • CBI officials reached R G Kar hospital KOLKATA: The RG Kar hospital seminar hall, where the 31-year-old PGT was found raped and murdered, was extensively videographed by CBI using 3D imaging for nearly 10 hours on Saturday.

The crime scene, and a possible attempt to destroy evidence, have been the subject of intense discourse, even during the Calcutta High Court hearing on Friday, after vandals rampaged the hospital in the intervening night between Aug 14-15. The victim's family has alleged that the seminar room may not be the crime scene at all.

On Saturday, two CBI officials reached the seminar hall of R G Kar hospital early in the morning. They carried 3D laser scanners to record the digital blueprints of the site. They reached the hospital at 10.30 am and stayed there till late night. The officials did not speak to the media.

Meanwhile, the CBI probe team is focusing on Sanjay Roy's antecedents. On Saturday afternoon, a team of six officers reached the Salt Lake barrack of the Fourth Battalion of Kolkata Police. They went straight to the barrack room that was often visited by Roy, a civic volunteer. The room was locked from outside and the CBI officers waited there while one of them contacted the administrative office. Nearly after two hours, the room was opened. The CBI officials stayed there for two more hours. They seized a few materials reportedly belonging to Roy. The investigators also tried to find out his location after he reached Kolkata from Salua, West Midnapore, on the day of the rape-murder.

Roy had returned here after murdering the victim and tried to wash the blood off his shoes. He was even "informed' about the murder by a colleague later on Aug 9, to which he said he will "actively look" into the case. It was from here Kolkata Police had arrested him. All this led CBI sleuths to check his belongings minutely and carry out relevant seizures.

The team then headed straight to the Sambhunath Pandit Street residence of Roy. They stayed there for nearly an hour, spoke to his mother and recorded her statement. According to CBI sources, his mother told the officials that she was clueless about what Sanjay was doing. She said that Sanjay has been an obedient son and took good care of her. She also said that the family did not have any information about his profession but he never made them feel any cash crunch. The officials also asked her if she had noted any aberration in Roy's behavior days before the incident.

Earlier, CBI had summoned nine people in connection with the RG Kar incident. On Saturday, the agency questioned one of the victim's close friend. He was released after questioning. In addition, two other friends have also been summoned. The victim's last conversation with her boyfriend was at 10 pm on the day of the incident. "She told me she was busy and would call later," the youth reportedly told the CBI officials. But the call never came. He then messaged her but there was no reply.

According to sources, the investigators are trying to know what exactly was discussed on the day of the incident, how long they talked and when he last saw the victim, among other details.
