Kolkata: After being axed from the post of Trinamool spokesperson, Shantanu Sen was on Saturday removed from the post of adviser to Kolkata Municipal Corporation health department. Sen was appointed as an adviser to KMC health department on Jan 5, 2022. Sen was the second adviser to the department.
Sen’s wife Kakali, a Trinamool councillor (ward 2), has also been removed from a councillors’ WhatsApp group.
It is believed that Shantanu Sen’s stance on the rape-murder at R G Kar has cost him his post in KMC. “Whatever he has said is contrary to our party stand. This has created a rift, maybe for the time being, that has compelled the civic brass to relieve him of his duty,” said a KMC official.
On Saturday, it was found that his name plate had been removed from his chamber at councillors’ club. Mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday refused to admit Sen as an adviser to KMC. “We have only one health adviser (T K Mukherjee). I am not aware of Sen’s position in the KMC as an adviser,” said Hakim.
Sen said he was appointed as an adviser to the health department in 2022 as per a circular issued by the former KMC secretary. “I have not received any communication from KMC officially. I still regard mayor Firhad Hakim as my elder brother and a senior neta,” said Sen.
“I am a disciplined soldier of the party and will do my best to serve people,” said Kakali.
