• ‘Abhishek should take a proactive role’

  • Kolkata: Trinamool former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh on Saturday said party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee should take a more “proactive” role under CM Mamata Banerjee’s leadership to blunt the BJP-Left narrative based on falsehoods and canards. Ghosh also said there were “mistakes by the local administration”, citing three, which are bolstering the opposition narrative that Trinamool is being “forced” to fend off.“CM Mamata Banerjee has done all that could have been done. It cannot be her fault if she is misled,” Ghosh told reporters, after broaching the issue on his X handle.

“This vulture politics built on false narratives is pricking Trinamool. We want our general Abhishek Banerjee to be more active in this fight. Abhishek is not active (now). Abhishek is keeping tabs. But in the bigger fight, we are unable to see a proactive Abhishek. Whatever the reason maybe, we under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, and under our general Abhishek Banerjee, have to fight back this BJP-Left collusion,” Ghosh told reporters.

Asked on the mistakes he referred to in his X handle posts, Ghosh said, “Correct information on the body after it was found was not conveyed rightly to the CM. Secondly, Sandip Ghosh is guilty or innocent we do not know. Due to a long-standing student demand, he resigned. And with what intelligence will PWD start working in the same floor which also has the crime scene. This fed rumours despite the state’s right intentions...”

Mayor Firhad Hakim said, “Abhishek (Banerjee) has an eye problem. Hence, he could not come (to the protests). He is our future leader.”
