  • Kolkata police on Saturday summoned several Left leaders, including Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI)’s West Bengal secretary Minakshi Mukherjee, and six other state level youth and student leaders of the CPIM, in connection with the case of vandalism of RG Kar medical college and hospital on August 14 night.

In a letter issued to CPIM leaders, the Kolkata Police has asked them to come for interrogation within 72 hours of receiving the letter.

After getting the summon from Kolkata police commissionerate Mukherjee said, “We will go to Lalbazar, but after consultation with lawyers.”

The emergency ward, nursing station, medicine store and parts of the outpatient department of the hospital were vandalised by miscreants during midnight protests by women across West Bengal, condemning the rape and murder of a doctor in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who blamed the BJP and the CPIM for the attack said, “It was not done by the students (doctors). I don’t blame them. Some outsider political people want to create unrest in Bengal. Bam and Ram (BJP and Left) united to do this. They went to take advantage from the protest. They don’t want peace. Those who carried the national flag in the movement were BJP. Apart from this, DYFI flags were also seen.”
