  • File photo NEW DELHI: Healthcare services at state-run hospitals in West Bengal were disrupted on Monday as junior doctors continued their cease-work protest over the rape and murder of a colleague from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The incident, which occurred on August 9, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice and better workplace security.

Heavy crowds were noted at the out-patient departments as senior doctors stepped in to manage the duties of their junior counterparts. This adjustment aimed to handle the high patient turnout on the first day of the week.

"This protest is for seeking justice for a female doctor who faced brutality while treating patients for 36 hours at a stretch. It is the 11th day that her body was discovered, but where is the justice? We will continue this stir until we get justice for our sister," said an agitating doctor at the RG Kar MCH.

The postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty on August 9. In response to the tragic incident, medics across the country have been protesting to demand justice for the victim and calling for legislation to ensure better security at healthcare facilities.
