• ‘SMEs raised ₹11k cr in last decade’

  • Kolkata: Small and medium enterprises have raised Rs 11,000 crore in the last decade, said Shekhar Chaudhary, director of financial markets division, department of economic affairs of the Union govt. He was speaking at the 10th edition of the Capital Markets Conclave organised by CII Eastern Region. Pointing out that access to capital has always been a challenge for SMEs, Chaudhary said SMEs were increasingly being listed on NSE and BSE.As on June-end 2023, as many as 780 SMEs have been listed on the exchanges.

    Chaudhary highlighted that in the Union Budget 2019-20, govt had proposed to create a social stock exchange. So far, nine NGOs have raised Rs 12 crore on the SSE. Around 100 NGOs have registered with NSE and BSE and were being hand-held to prepare their fund-raising documents for subsequent listing on SSE. Sebi member Amarjeet Singh pointed out in the event that in mutual funds, share of AUM from B30 cities had increased from 15% to 18% in last 5 years

    Bengal contributed 5% of the total AUM and was among the top 10 states in terms of per capita penetration. Kolkata was among the top 5 cities in total AUM contribution.
