  • KOLKATA: The counsel representing the family of the 31-year-old doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at R G Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata has criticised West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's handling of the case.

    Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, the lawyer for the victim's family, accused the CM of attempting to "buy silence" from victims and witnesses in rape cases.

    In a strongly worded statement, Bhattacharya said, "The role of the CM in the state of West Bengal is very condemnable. Wherever there is a rape incident, she wants to immediately get in touch with the victim's family, pay them money, and say everything is over. Unfortunately, she has fixed a rate card for the rape victims.

    " He further alleged that the chief minister tries to "purchase the witnesses.

    As per an India Today report, Bhattacharya also claimed that the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was orchestrated by CM Mamata Banerjee, alleging that she was responsible for the damage to the hospital's property.

    The 31-year-old trainee woman doctor was raped and murdered on August 9 at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
