• Met: Light rain in Kol today, downpour in south Bengal

  • Kolkata: The Met office has predicted rain with lower intensity in city from Tuesday onwards, but the downpour will continue in some South Bengal districts, including Murshidabad, Burdwan, Nadia and Bankura.

    Between Sunday and Monday evening, the city’s rain count touched 61.8mm, according to weathermen.

    While the city had maximum rain on Sunday, the Met office has recorded 7.5mm of rain on Monday till the evening.Till Sunday evening, the rain count in the city stood at 54.4mm.

    The maximum temperature of the city hovered around 29.6 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees below normal, due to the rain.

    The south Kolkata pockets have received more rain than north Kolkata localities. However, the city has had surplus rain in Aug, according to H R Biswas, head of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Kolkata.

    Biswas said, “Though Kolkata had a 20% seasonal rain deficit, it has had surplus rainfall in the month of Aug so far. Between Aug 1 to 19, the city has received 253mm of rainfall while it was supposed to have 200.4mm of rainfall in this month. The city is likely to have lower rain on Tuesday and the spells will weaken, depending on the position and movement of the low-pressure.”
