  • Kolkata: East Bengal juggernaut continued to roll on in the CFL Premier Division, this time brushing Rainbow AC 2-0 on Tuesday to consolidate their position at the top.

    With their sixth win on the trot and 28 points from 10 matches, Bino George’s already Super Six-bound team has emerged as the frontrunner to reclaim their lost ground in the local league.

    After a barren first half, Sanjib Ghosh gave the home team a lead in the 75 th minute with a powerful strike from inside the box.

    Muhammad K Ashique sealed the deal for East Bengal making it 2-0 in the stoppage time with a left-footed piledriver.

    After their first goal, East Bengal players followed Mohammedan Sporting counterparts’ path, holding up a jersey to display a message, seeking justice for the RG Kar victim.

    Bhowanipore SC became the second team from Group B to join East Bengal in the championship round (Super Six). They beat George Telegraph 2-0 to move into 25 points from 10 matches. Azharuddin Mallick and Shuvo Ghosh scored for Bhowanipore.

    Calcutta Customs are currently placed third with 21 points.

    The top three teams from each of the two 13-team groups will progress to the Super Six stage.

    In the day’s other Group B matches, Kalighat Sports LA defeated Eastern Railway 2-0 while Railway FC edged Police AC 2-1.
