According to H R Biswas, head of weather section at Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata, there was disparity in rainfall between north and south because it was a thundershower.Sources in KMC drainage department said areas such as Maniktala, Ultadanga, Beliaghata, Thanthania received heavy rain from 1 pm to 2 pm while Ballygunge, Jodhpur Park and the adjacent neighbourhoods received little rain. According to a KMC drainage department official, storm water took time to recede due to the high tide in the Hooghly in the afternoon.

Several roads at Salt Lake and New Town were inundated for a few hours following the rain. Stretches on the First Avenue and the crossroads including places of Karunamoyee, in front of CGO complex and the roads leading to City Centre mall were waterlogged. The water receded after a couple of hours as the civic authorities operated pumps to drain out the excess water. BMC drainage and sewerage department officials said all monsoon waterlogging prevention measures were being taken across Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur. The gully pits were regularly being cleaned up with machines.
