  • NEW DELHI: Dr Sandip Ghosh, the sacked principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has been described as "highly corrupt" by former colleagues at the institution.

    Ghosh has come under intense scrutiny following the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor within the hospital premises.

    He faces several serious allegations, including financial corruption and misconduct.

    Allegations:

    Failing students: Ghosh was accused of deliberately failing students, possibly as a means of exerting control.Commission on tenders: He reportedly took a 20% commission on tender orders.Financial exploitation: Ghosh allegedly extorted money for any work done at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.Providing alcohol to students: It is claimed he supplied alcohol to students at his guest house.Domestic violence : Ghosh was accused of physically assaulting his wife just 14 days after she gave birth via Caesarean section.Misuse of government assets: He was accused of leasing government assets without authorization from Swastha Bhavan or the College Council.Nepotism: Ghosh allegedly favored vendors through personal connections, awarding contracts worth crores to ineligible parties.Recycling of medical waste: Used syringes, saline bottles, and gloves, weighing between 500-600 kg, were regularly taken and recycled by two Bangladeshi nationals.

    On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and killed while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, igniting nationwide strikes and protests from the medical fraternity.

    On August 14, a mob vandalized the protest site and hospital campus at RG Kar forcing security forces to intervene and disperse the crowd.
