Former TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty gets rape threat on social media, goes to cops

Mimi Chakraborty KOLKATA: Actor and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty has lodged a complaint with the cyber crime division of Kolkata Police that she has been receiving rape threats on social media. None has been arrested in this case yet.
"AND WE ARE DEMANDING JUSTICE FOR WOMEN RIGHT? These are just a few of them. Where rape threats have been normalised by venomous men masking themselves in the crowd saying they stand by women.What upbringing and education permits this?" Chakraborty wrote on X while sharing screenshots of two such posts.
One of the posts, made by X handle @sayakmaity1996, read: "It would have been better had the rape happened with Mimi". Another post, made by @rasidul_754, also had several derogatory comments and remarks against Chakraborty and chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
"I am not really shocked with the comments. But I am also not the kind of person who will stay mum on receiving such attacks. I have lodged a complaint and have been following it up with the cops to ensure the culprits are caught and punished," Chakraborty told TOI.
Chakraborty has been vocal on social media against the rape-murder of the PGT at RG Kar Hospital and has been sharing regular posts seeking justice for her. She had also participated in the original "Reclaim the night" movement on Aug 14 and had joined the gathering outside Academy of Fine Arts and other rallies for the cause.
A senior officer of Kolkata Police said they have located the profiles and are trying to nab the offenders at the earliest.
