  • West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose reached out to the family of the trainee doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. In a phone call Tuesday afternoon, the Governor reportedly expressed his condolences and assured the family of his support.

“Keep up your courage. We will go as far as we can. You will get justice,” Governor Bose told the victim’s parents. He also committed to visiting them personally. “We all are with you. You will get justice. Today I am in Delhi, I held discussions in detail about the matter. I will go to your residence as per your convenience,” Bose was seen telling the father in a video message released by his office.

The call was the first of Bose’s newly initiated Mobile Control Room, with numbers 03322001641 and 92890 10682, to facilitate communication with the public regarding agitations over the case. “Anyone may call up the numbers if they wish to convey anything to the Governor,” read a statement from the Raj Bhavan.

“You are the constitutional head of the state. Please support us in this fight of ours,” the victim’s father told the Governor.

The father expressed gratitude for the widespread support they had received, both nationally and internationally. “The whole country is with us,” he said. While acknowledging the sub-judice nature of the case, he expressed confidence in the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court.

Regarding the Supreme Court’s observations on the FIR being filed almost three hours after cremating the dead body, the victim’s father said, “The Supreme Court will surely look into why the FIR was delayed. The court has already summoned the principal of the college. We had filed a complaint at 5 pm. Why it got further delayed, that only police can tell,” said her father.

He also emphasised the need to investigate potential attempts to destroy evidence.

“If former principal Sandeep Ghosh is found to be involved in making an effort to destroy the evidence, then he will be punished,” the victim’s father said.

In New Delhi, Bose met President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

PTI adds: Bose reached Cuttack in the evening and spoke to the victim’s mother on a video call.  During the conversation, the parents complained to Bose about not being provided with copies of the FIR lodged in connection with the daughter’s murder. “The Governor assured them that he will take action into the matter,” a Raj Bhavan source said.
