Govt accepts docs’ demands, transfers RG Kar Hosp top 4

Kolkata: Acceding to the demands of agitating doctors, Bengal govt late on Wednesday transferred four senior officials from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, including newly appointed principal Suhrita Paul, medical superintendent and vice-principal Bulbul Mukherjee, chest medicine head Arunabha Datta Chowdhury and assistant superintendent Dwaipayan Biswas.
The order transferring former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh to Calcutta National Medical College was also cancelled.
Earlier in the day, doctors marched from CBI’s CGO Complex office in Salt Lake to Swasthya Bhawan to place their demands that included the transfer of these officials.
Manas Banerjee has been appointed the new principal. Banerjee had in 2023 replaced ex-principal Ghosh, but the principal’s room was locked up for three days to prevent his entry and Ghosh was reinstated on the fourth day.
Saptarshi Chatterjee will be the new MSVP but the rem-aining appointments are yet to be announced.
Suhrita Paul, who was made principal after Ghosh resigned on Aug 13 in the wake of the brutal rape-murder of a young doctor at the hospital on Aug 9, will now be principal of Barasat Medical College. The junior doctors said Paul reported to RG Kar only for a day. after her appointment. She continued to operate from Swasthya Bhawan and was not available to listen to their grievances. On Wednesday, however, Paul was present at the hospital for a meeting with CISF officials on security.
