Kolkata: A 55-year-old woman was found murdered at Nonadanga in Anandapur on Wednesday morning. Her grandchild, who was travelling with her from their residence in Topsia, is still missing.
The cops have arrested one Vicky Shaw (28), a driver. Another young man, around 18 years old, has been detained.
Later in the evening, over 100 women gheraoed the Narkeldanga police station, demanding information about the missing child.
Prima facie, it appeared that Shaw had stabbed the victim Rehana Begum, a mother of two, multiple times on the Nonadanga Road on Tuesday night and left the body there. On Wednesday morning, locals residing near a private hospital off EM Bypass spotted the body and alerted cops.
The victim had several wounds on the upper portion of the body. Anandapur police said they are waiting for the preliminary postmortem report to ascertain the time of death and the manner in which she was murdered. The postmortem will also certain if there was any sexual assault before she was murdered. The cops, however, have denied that there was any sexual assault.
According to police sources, Rehana made a living on the rent from various apartments owned by her in Anandapur. She used to hire Shaw to take her around. On Tuesday, she had left her residence. Her daughter’s son insisted he would accompany her and she obliged.
Sources claimed that once Rehana collected some rent, she wanted to return home. However, Shaw said he needed to fill up the fuel tank. An argument had ensued over this.
“The accused Shaw has confessed that he then attacked the victim and killed her. However, we are not certain where the child is. We are questioning the accused in this regard,” said a police source.
The cops are studying all CCTV footage from Tiljala to Nonadanga to try and trace the child.
