• Security SOP for cops at govt hospitals
    Times of India | 23 August 2024
  • Kolkata: A host of measures, discussed in 2019 following an assault on doctors at NRS Medical college, came up for discussion during a security audit meeting at Lalbazar on Thursday. Already, the cops have begun carrying out security audits at various govt hospitals, with the process kicking off from Medical college.

To prevent attacks on govt hospital doctors cops will conduct specialized training to tackle mobs for those stationed at the police outpost, especially at night.“Even amidst the RG Kar protests, a junior doctor was attacked at SSKM Hospital. We intervened immediately,” said an officer.

Among the plans discussed was a dedicated medical security helpline, installation of alarms across all departments of a hospital, CCTV coverage for all entries, incident response from a senior officer, restricted access to emergency, female cops for all high-pressure wards and monitoring of movement at main gates. Cops are also examining whether fresh charges can be slapped on repeat offenders involved in assault on doctors in the past 2 years.
