  • Kolkata: The state health department has cancelled the transfer order of former R G Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh to Calcutta National Medical College. While the department has not assigned any new assignment/posting, it has also not accepted Ghosh’s resignation from medical education service.

Ghosh had announced his resignation on Aug 12, three days after a second-year PGT doctor was found raped and murdered while she was on night duty. Not accepting his resignation, the state transferred him to CNMC within hours of his resignation. This had triggered protests on the CNMC campus and fuelled protests across the city.

“No new post is being assigned to Sandip Ghosh. He is on extraordinary leave,” said a senior health official.

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had directed Ghosh to go on long leave while making strong observations against him. On Thursday, Ghosh was grilled by the CBI for the sixth consecutive day.

The protesting junior doctors had been demanding that Ghosh be debarred from any administrative post in health department along with the transfer of the newly appointed principal, MSVP, the respiratory medicine head and assistant super who informed parents of the deceased that the death was by ‘suicide’.
