  • Kolkata: The top administrators at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital reached out to the agitating doctors, faculty members and the students on Friday to gain their confidence and trust. According to students and senior doctors, this was the first time in the past couple of weeks that they were getting to interact with the college administration directly.

Newly appointed principal Manas Bandyopadhyay, MSVP Saptarshi Chatterjee and additional medical superintendent major Dwipayan Biswas held meetings with heads of all departments, enquired about their problems and took suggestions on how they could reclaim the reputation of the medical college.

“It was a very productive meeting to thrash out ideas on how to restore normalcy on the campus that has been embroiled in controversies recently,” said a senior doctor.

The administrators also held a meeting with representatives of junior doctors to discuss their concerns. The PGTs were assured of all possible support.

Chatterjee, who is also a professor of forensic medicine, also visited the protest site of the hospital and spent time interacting with the doctors on protest. Chatterjee was heard telling them that he was there to help them resolve their problems. “The previous administration, especially former principal Sandip Ghosh, was not accessible easily. He used to interact with only a few of his favourites. Even the faculty members had restricted access. We got a positive vibe from the new administration,” said an intern.

The semblance of normalcy was visible on Friday, when the OPD footfall at RG Kar crossed 1,000 after two weeks.
