  • Kolkata: The Bengal govt was sorting out land hurdles to bring in more investors from Germany and other countries, state minister for industry, commerce and enterprises Shashi Panja said on Friday.

Panja, addressing the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce’s eastern region members’ meet in the city, also sought more investments from German companies in Bengal.“Our govt has an inclusive approach towards industrial development. There is political stability in Bengal as it is our CM Mamata Banerjee’s third term. Bengal has the second largest MSME segment and we want it to grow further with German collaboration. For instance, we are focusing on agri technology, in which Germany plays a pivotal role. We are looking forward to more investments from Germany and the state is ready to provide all support,” Panja said.

She said German-based Wienstroth was opening its new unit along with a steel furnace factory in Kolkata.

Stefan Halusa, director general of the chamber, said: “Many German companies are interested in exploring business opportunities in Bengal and other parts of eastern region.”
