• Kolkata rape murder case: Will not return to work ‘for time being,’ say junior doctors

  • A delegation of protesting doctors in the state, who visited the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Kolkata on Friday evening, to enquire about the progress of the investigation into the rape and murder of a junior woman doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, said that they will not return to work for the time being and will continue with the protest.

    The doctors delegation was informed by the CBI that since this is a court-monitored investigation, they cannot share details of the investigation with them.

    The Calcutta High Court (HC) on August 14 had transferred the investigation of the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College, from Kolkata Police to the CBI.

    The protesting doctors had demanded that they should be regularly informed about the progress of the investigation.

    On Thursday, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud had requested the agitating doctors to return to work.

    In response, the protesting doctors in Delhi and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Kalyani, West Bengal called off their cease of work. While the RG Kar agitators have decided to continue their strike.

    In an appeal to the protesting doctors in the state, State Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam, on Friday, said, “We have made security arrangements in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court (SC). I have accepted all the conditions of the agitators. This is our appeal they many poor people are dependent
    on government hospital and doctors should return to work.”
