  • The seized bike of prime accused Sanjay Roy KOLKATA: The 53 items seized by Kolkata Police and handed over to CBI along with digital evidence like phone tower location that placed Sanjay Roy at the crime scene when the rape and murder took place in the seminar hall at R G Kar Hospital are key to the ongoing investigation. CBI is currently waiting for forensic reports that will begin arriving in batches in a few days.

    The most crucial items in the seizure list are 40 exhibits collected by the state forensic science laboratory team from the scene of crime between 8.30 pm and 10.45 pm on Aug 9. The entire process was video-graphed in presence of local witnesses including doctors.

    Of equal importance are the "nine incriminating articles" that were seized from prime accused Roy like his clothes and undergarments that he wore during the crime. The seized materials also include his bike, helmet and sandals that he wore that day.

    The extraction of data from his cloned mobile was carried out by experts in court in the presence of the magistrate. CCTV footage from camera number 8 and camera number 16 at the hospital in which Roy is seen will also act as evidence.

    From the murder spot, evidence was picked up by fingerprint and footprint experts of the scientific wing of detective department. The medical report of Roy which noted the injuries on his left cheek, abrasion in his left hand and at the back of his left thigh will also be tabled as proof. Blood sample of Roy was collected to match with those found at the crime spot.

    On Aug 13, the exhibits collected by experts of state FSL from the scene of crime, exhibits collected by board of autopsy surgeons during autopsy and exhibits discovered and seized from accused were forwarded to CFSL Kolkata for forensic and DNA analysis.

    Requisition was given to Kolkata Police Traffic Control Room and a nationalized bank at Shyambazar for the preservation of CCTV footage for seizure in the case. This additional footage will also be part of the digital evidence to be submitted along with the charge sheet in court, claimed CBI sources.
