  • Sanjay Roy KOLKATA: The main accused in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-and-murder case, Sanjay Roy, who was sent to judicial custody on Friday, has requested that he be allowed to get some sleep.

    Roy has been lodged in the 'VIP ward' of Presidency Correctional Home but at a distance from other high-profile inmates like former state ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mullick.

    Roy has claimed that he was exhausted after multiple rounds of interrogation for the past two weeks by Kolkata Police and CBI. According to him, during the initial days, he was questioned till late hours of the night.

    Detective department and Kolkata Police officers stated that the accused was subjected to multiple rounds of questioning, but he was given ample amount of time to rest properly in between those rounds.

    On Friday evening, after the Sealdah court ordered jail custody, Roy was taken to Presidency Jail under tight security. For his safety, he was placed in a high security cell that is closer to the boundary wall and is usually known to lodge murder accused. According to jail staff, Roy had dal-roti and vegetables and tea in the morning.
