  • Kolkata: CBI on Saturday conducted a polygraph test on former principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandip Ghosh at its CGO complex office. The test on six others — prime accused Sanjay Roy, four doctors and a civic volunteer — will be done over the next few days.

A team of experts from New Delhi reached Kolkata on Saturday morning to conduct the polygraph tests, for which the agency received court nod on Friday.Ghosh's lawyers claimed it wasn't difficult for CBI to get his approval for a polygraph test. Being a doctor, he was aware of the process and gave his consent. "He never hesitated when the agency approached him. He was confident and not unwilling," his lawyer said. CBI officers said the purpose of the polygraph was to check the authenticity of Ghosh's statements regarding the chain of events on Aug 8 and Aug 9. The body of the 31-year-old PGT, who was raped and murdered inside a seminar hall on the 3rd floor of the hospital, was found on the morning of Aug 9.

Prime accused Sanjay Roy, who on Friday claimed he was being framed, is next in line for the polygraph test. A team of CBI investigators met Roy at Presidency jail on Saturday. "The entire process was explained to him in the presence of the judicial magistrate on Friday," said his lawyer Sourav Bandyopadhyay of Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (South 24 Parganas).

CBI officers on Saturday again questioned ASI Anup Datta, who was close to Roy, as well as cops posted at RG Kar hospital police outpost on Aug 8-9. A bike that was often used by Roy and his civic volunteer friend Sourav Bhattacharya was seized on Saturday.
