CBI files FIR against Sandip Ghosh over financial irregularities at RG Kar

KOLKATA: CBI filed Saturday an FIR against former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the hospital, a day after a Calcutta high court directive to do so.
A SIT of Kolkata Police, which had earlier started a probe into the charges based on a 2022 complaint, handed over case documents to CBI Saturday.The agency's officers and lawyers then submitted a copy of the FIR to a special CBI court in Kolkata's Alipore. The matter is likely to be taken up by the court on Tuesday.
The HC order was passed on a petition by Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar who had sought a probe against Ghosh by ED.
CBI is now likely to scan the contracts during Ghosh's tenure from 2021. The HC has asked the CBI to submit a probe progress report within three weeks and scheduled the next hearing for September 17.
