  • Bankura: A 46-year-old woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances at Bankadaha jungle in Bankura on Sunday morning.

CPM and BJP netas raised concerns about the possibility of her being raped and murdered. Cops have registered a case of murder based on her husband’s complaint and initiated a probe under BNS sections 103/1 and 238.

Onda MLA Amarnath Shakha, who is also BJP’s Bishnupur district president, took to social media to share information on the death, alleging that the victim had been raped.

Police said the woman, who resided in Chanchar village, went missing from her home on Saturday. After a futile search, her husband filed a missing diary around 9.30pm that night. Police found her dead, in a semi-nude state, a day later. Cops said there was no apparent injury mark on the body. Bankura SP Vaibhav Tiwari said: “We are waiting for the postmortem report to arrive.”

Shakha stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation, implying that the circumstances in which the woman was discovered suggested she may have been subjected to torture. The MLA said they would decide on their next course of action after going through the autopsy report.

CPM Bankura district secretary Ajit Pati said they were waiting to learn what exactly had happened.
