Kolkata: The CBI, looking into the alleged financial irregularities at R G Kar Hospital, on Monday questioned former MSVP of the college, Sanjay Vashisth, and the present principal, Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay.
Officers at the Nizam Palace office of the agency questioned Vashisth to find out how money was siphoned off the public exchequer. Allegations of nepotism by selecting only a few vendors were already registered with the Kolkata Police.It was found that crores were given out only to a few of the “favourite bidders” who were not even eligible to get the bid. The hospital allegedly evaded financial rules deliberately.
Misappropriation also included deliberate and illegal breaking up of work orders to keep them below Rs 1 lakh so that the process of e-tender can be evaded. Benami business was run allegedly in the form of collection of two-wheeler parking charges, running of canteen in boys’ main hostel and a café on the hospital campus. Allegations were also made in the selection of 3 vendors who bagged consecutive orders. Present MSVP Saptarshi Chatterjee and Debashis Som, forensic medicine & toxicology department demonstrator, were also questioned.
