• Suvendu calls for Prez rule, fresh elections in Bengal

  • Kolkata/New Delhi: Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state and holding of elections to choose a “democratic government”. Protest movements would be stepped up in the days to come, he added.

“This movement will continue and force CM Mamata Banerjee to resign. President’s rule should be imposed in Bengal and election needs to be conducted,” Adhikari said.

Adhikari and Bengal BJP have, till now, been vocal opponents of President’s rule.

BJP president J P Nadda led the party’s outrage over the police action in Kolkata, saying that images of police highhandedness in the city had angered every person who valued democratic principles. “In Didi’s West Bengal, to help rapists and criminals is valued but it’s a crime to speak for women’s safety,” Nadda posted on X.

BJP IT department head Amit Malviya in a post on X said that unless Banerjee and Kolkata police chief Vineet Goyal stepped down, there couldn’t be a free and fair probe.

“CBI should take them in custody, go into their phone records and subject them to polygraph test to unearth the conspiracy behind the young doctor’s rape and murder,” Malviya said.

“Whatever is happening in Bengal is worrisome. It’s clearly visible that if at all there is a dictator in the country, it’s Mamata Banerjee,” BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said.

“Youths can’t speak up for their rights. Women are not secure. There is no other way but call a bandh to protest against an autocratic govt,” Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said.
