Kolkata: Search for the three remaining crew members on board a Mumbai-registered cargo vessel MV ITT Puma which had sunk 90 nautical miles or 130 kms south of Sagar Island in West Bengal due to inclement weather on Sunday evening continued through Tuesday.
In a daring night-time rescue operation early on Monday, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) had successfully saved 11 sailors who were stranded on life rafts after the Port Blair-bound ship carrying 75 tonnes of sand cargo from Kolkata had sunk. ICG had rescued 11 out of 14 sailors using two coast guard ships Sarang and Amogh and a Dornier aircraft, equipped with advanced night vision capable sensors. “The rescued 11 crew members from life rafts were given medical treatment and were safely transported to Paradip Harbour. Search for the remaining 3 crew members continues,” an ICG statement said.
