Kolkata: Girls and queer students at Presidency University started an indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday, demanding a safe campus.
A gender sensitisation committee with students members, an ICC with an elected student representative, strict and rapid action for sexual harassment complaints and gender neutral washrooms on campus are some of their demands.PG student Barishan Ray said, “We have given the university authorities 24 hours to accept our safety demand. We do not want a repetition of the R G Kar incident at Presi.” Dean of students Arun Maity said, “Without a union election , an elected student representative can’t be included in IC. We have gender neutral toilets.” tnn
