Kolkata: Kolkata Police has accepted that the bike used by Sanjay Roy, the arrested accused in the RG Kar rape-and-murder case, belonged to Kolkata Police. But, police clarified, the bike was not assigned to Roy, a civic volunteer.
Police said the bike was assigned to the police welfare cell for asst sub-inspector Arup Dutta. At the time the bike was seized from Roy, KP started an inquiry why Dutta allowed Roy to use it.The CBI has so far questioned Dutta twice following claims he had arranged for Roy’s stay at the 4th Battalion. Police also posted online: “The bike used by Sanjoy Roy... was registered in the name of the commissioner of police Kolkata... all govt vehicles belonging to KP are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police.” tnn
